Uganda joined the SWA partnership in 2010. The WASH sector in Uganda has greatly improved on the planning, monitoring and review building block. A National Development Plan was developed and aligned with the SDGs. There are some gaps which need to be addressed in sector financing and capacity development. All sector processes (planning, budgeting, monitoring and evaluation) are government - led supported by all partners.
Commitments by the government
Develop a country roadmap to eliminate Open Defecation from 7% to 0% of the population by 2030.
Joint commitments
Improve water efficiency through promoting and encouraging water harvesting and efficient water utilization among individuals, households, institutions and sectors.
Develop a climate financing WASH investment plan.
Build capacity of stakeholders to understand and mainstream the WASH and climate change nexus in their programs and projects.
Develop a National Adaptation Plan for the WASH sector.
Assessment and compilation of inequalities in Uganda, led by the civil society network UWASNET.
Develop a web-based Management Information System for WASH by 2022.
Commitments by partners
Work in partnership with government and other stakeholders to promote the prioritization of addressing WASH inequalities agenda by undertaking a national survey to compile data depicting inequalities in WASH by December 2020.
In order to comply with the mutual accountability principle, compile the Annual NGO Performance Report to enable the Government to assess actual WASH accessibility gaps within the country.
