Sierra Leone

Priority country : Multi-stakeholder approaches

Sierra Leone joined SWA in 2010. Sierra Leone to a large extent has been building on and implementing the use of country systems, this is manifested through the constant engagement between Government and its development partners, in order to ensure alignment of donor programs with not only the overall Government development Agenda but also with the strategic plans of the ministries.

Commitments by the government

Create a resilient water supply system for the western area of Sierra Leone. Through that, we aim to provide universal access to safe water supply for all inhabitants of Freetown and the Western Area by protecting the Western Area Peninsula National Park (WAPNP), constructing 10 new dams and developing 3 large dams (including treatment facilities and transmission and distribution systems).
