Institutional Arrangements

This tool provides 50+ examples that document the implementation of the OECD Principles on Water Governance. The evolving practices provide lessons learnt at various levels (local, basin, national) as well as for policy frameworks, institutions and policy instruments, and could help with future implementation of the principles in interested cities, basins, regions and countries. It is aimed at policy makers, practitioners and other stakeholders wanting to learn from each other and aims to help them identify pitfalls to avoid when designing and implementing water policies.

This strategy brief focuses on ‘how to’ strengthen cross-sectoral approaches between health and its social, economic and environmental determinants in order to improve WASH. It was prepared for the Inter Ministerial Conference on “South-South Cooperation in Post ICDP and MDGs” held in Beijing in October, 2013.

WASH BAT has been designed as a sector tool for use by governments and development partners for WASH sector strengthening. It enables a systematic identification of factors (or “bottlenecks”) that prevent achievement of sustainable service delivery within national or subnational WASH targets and helps stakeholders to define activities aimed at removing the root causes of these bottlenecks.
